The holidays may be over, but the bassets aren’t done celebrating yet. We’re just starting our season! We have two events scheduled and more in the planning stage. Our goal this year is to teach our members more about the breed: their talents and abilities, their health and maintenance.
Howliday Party-Sunday, January 16th
Given that December is such a crazy month, we’ve extended the season into January. Now that we have all had a chance to take a deep breath, we will gather on the 16th for our ‘pawty’ and playdate. We will have gift exchange for the bassets, so bring a basset gift for each hound you will have in the exchange. We will pile the gifts in the middle of the ring and each hound can choose their own, or not, as the case me be. Value of the gifts should be under $10. Vicki Russell has volunteered to hold a nail trimming clinic (for a $5 donation to the club) and will also demo ear cleaning. Also, if your hound has a special trick, we’d like to see how you taught them. The party will be held at Pet Junction from 1-3:30. Pet Junction is on the NW corner of I-694 and Rice St. in Shoreview. We will have treats for the humans and there is a rumor that Barb’s rum cake will make an appearance. Treat donations are welcome.
Valentine Party-Sunday February 13
Dress your basset in hearts and flowers! We will have a prize for the best Valentine costume. Those squirrely hounds will have plenty of time to run and play. Vicki will again be clipping nails. Join us at Pet Junction from 12-2:30.
For March and April we are working on events that will be both informative and fun. As a lead up to the Specialty, we hope to have an explanation of the breed standard. There is a reason for the deep chests and the short, strong legs. We also plan to talk about basset first aid. Of course, there will always be basset play time.
In May BBR will be holding their Spring into Summer on May 21-22. It was a wonderful event last year and this year will be bigger and better! In June we have our two big events of the year. Our Specialty show is Friday, June 10th and Basset Jam will be either the 16th or 23th. The date is yet to be confirmed. Lisa Ritchie is working to keep our web site updated, so keep checking.
Just a reminder that dues are due in September. Please send them to Lisa Ritchie at 3437 141st Lane NW, Andover, MN 55304.
Finally, we are asking for donations for the Specialty Show Trophy Fund. Contributions provide the prizes which are given to the winners of each class as well as Best of Breed, Best of Winners, Winners Dog and Winners Bitch and others. To be mentioned in the Catalonia, we need your contribution by January 9th, although donations are welcome any time. Please send to Barb Sorensen, 1455 North Danube Road, Fridley, MN 55432. Phone: 763-571-2436.
Thanks for your support, we look forward to seeing you soon!
